Bitcoin is trading near $77,700 as we enter the final week of April 2026. The recovery from Q1 lows is holding, but the onchain picture tells a more nuanced story than the price alone. Here are five metrics worth tracking this week.

1. aSOPR Has Crossed Back Above 1.0

The Adjusted Spent Output Profit Ratio (aSOPR) crossed back above the critical 1.0 line this week for the first time since Q4 2025. When aSOPR is above 1.0, the average UTXO being spent is in profit. When it falls below, the average coin is moving at a loss.

The significance of this crossover is context-dependent. In healthy bull markets, aSOPR tends to bounce off 1.0 from above as that level acts as support. After extended bearish periods, the return above 1.0 signals that the market has absorbed selling pressure and is transitioning into a new phase.

The Q4 2024 breakout showed this exact pattern: aSOPR crossed above 1.0 and held, even as price action looked uncertain. The current reading mirrors that setup structurally.

What to watch: Whether aSOPR holds above 1.0 on any near-term price dips. A hold signals structural support. A breakdown back below means the transition is not yet confirmed.

2. Bitcoin Exchange Reserves Remain Near Multi-Year Lows

Exchange reserves have been on a structural decline for over three years. The total BTC sitting on major centralized exchanges is near its lowest level since 2018. Less supply on exchanges means less liquid supply available to sell. It does not guarantee price appreciation, but it reduces overhead selling pressure from the equation.

This signal was present throughout Q1 2026 even as price fell from $108K to $65K. What makes it relevant now is the combination: reserves are low, price has recovered to the $77K range, and the selling pressure that drove Q1 down appears to have been absorbed.

The key number to watch is approximately 2.1 to 2.2 million BTC across major exchanges. A sustained break below 2.0 million BTC would be a significant structural development.

What to watch: Any sudden spikes in exchange inflows, which would signal a cohort preparing to sell into this recovery.

3. Coin Days Destroyed Is Quiet

Coin Days Destroyed (CDD) measures the movement of dormant Bitcoin. One coin held for 100 days accumulates 100 coin days. When it moves, those days are destroyed. High CDD means old, patient capital is exiting. Low CDD means they are still holding.

CDD has been historically suppressed throughout 2026. In the leadup to the November 2021 cycle top, CDD elevated for weeks as long-term holders distributed into the rally. The 2017 top showed the same pattern: a sustained spike over the final weeks of the bull run.

Right now there is no such spike. The cohort that accumulated through the 2022 bear market and held through the 2025 to 2026 correction is not moving. That behavioral signal matters more than the price chart.

What to watch: Any week-over-week uptick in CDD above its trailing 30-day average would warrant attention.

For the full breakdown of what CDD measures and how to read it in a cycle context, see the Coin Days Destroyed explainer.

4. Funding Rates Are Neutral

Perpetual futures funding rates across major exchanges are approximately neutral this week. This matters because it reflects the composition of the market’s leveraged bets.

In bull cycle phases at similar price levels in 2020 and 2021, funding rates were consistently positive, sometimes running at 0.1% every 8 hours. Traders were paying heavily to stay long. That dynamic creates liquidation cascades when price dips, because the leverage is too one-sided.

Neutral funding means traders are not piling into leveraged longs at current prices. The recovery from Q1 lows appears driven by spot demand and organic buying, not derivatives leverage. That is a structurally healthier setup than the late 2024 or early 2025 price action.

What to watch: If funding rates start running persistently positive above 0.05% per 8 hours, that signals a shift in market structure worth tracking closely.

5. MVRV Z-Score Remains in Value Territory

The MVRV Z-Score compares Bitcoin’s market cap to its realized cap, then normalizes by standard deviation. Values below 1 have historically marked the best accumulation zones. Values above 7 have marked cycle tops.

Bitcoin’s MVRV Z-Score has been recovering from the low readings of early Q1 2026. At current prices near $78K, the score remains well below the euphoric territory that historically precedes cycle tops. It is in the zone that, across four Bitcoin cycles, has characterized mid-cycle recoveries rather than speculative tops.

This metric does not give you an entry point. It gives you the macro context for where the market is in the cycle. Right now that context is this: not cheap enough to match a historical bottom, not expensive enough to match a historical top.

What to watch: If BTC continues recovering toward the $85K to $90K range, watch for the MVRV Z-Score approaching the 2.0 to 2.5 zone. Historically, that marks the transition from value territory to fair value.

The Macro Picture This Week

Five metrics. Four of them are aligned in the same direction: this looks like a mid-cycle recovery, not a distribution top. aSOPR has crossed back positive. Exchange reserves are structurally low. Coin days are quiet. Funding is not overheated.

MVRV Z-Score is the one to watch as price recovers. It will tell you when the market starts pricing in genuine premium over cost basis, which is when the risk profile begins to change.

The onchain data for the week of April 21 to 28 does not look like a market preparing to roll over. It looks like a market that absorbed a significant correction and is in the early stages of rebuilding structure.

What to watch into May: Whether aSOPR holds above 1.0 on pullbacks, whether CDD spikes on any rally continuation, and whether MVRV Z-Score climbs above 2.0 as price tests higher levels.
