Ask anyone who has traded Solana meme coins for a while and they will tell you the same thing: finding tokens is the easy part. Getting out with a profit is where most traders fail. Tokens can double and then collapse within the same hour, and a trade that was up 3x can finish at a loss if there was no plan. This guide covers how to build an exit strategy before you enter, using the order tools inside PepeBoost. For the mechanics of the order types themselves, see our limit orders and auto-sell guide.
Why exits matter more than entries
Meme coins have a brutal distribution of outcomes. Most go to zero. A small number make large moves, often briefly. That means your results depend almost entirely on how much of the rare big move you capture, and how quickly you cut the many losers. A trader with average entries and disciplined exits usually beats a trader with great entries and no plan.
The take-profit ladder
A ladder splits your exit into stages instead of trying to sell everything at the perfect top. A simple example:
At 2x, sell enough to recover your initial stake, often around half the position.
At 3x to 4x, sell another quarter.
Let the final quarter ride with a trailing stop or a far higher target.
Recovering your initial stake early changes how you trade the rest. Once the remaining tokens are pure profit, you can hold through volatility without panic. The exact multiples matter less than having them set before the trade. You can set these staged sell orders in PepeBoost right after buying, so they execute even if you are away from your phone.
Stop-losses on meme coins
Stop-losses on low-liquidity tokens are imperfect. Price can gap straight through your level, and a thin order book means you may sell well below your trigger. Even so, a stop is better than nothing. Two guidelines help. First, set stops wider than you would on a large-cap token, because normal meme coin volatility will trigger tight stops constantly. Second, size positions so that a total loss is acceptable. On tokens where a rug is possible, the real stop-loss is your position size. Our rug pull guide covers the checks that keep you out of the worst of them.
Trailing stops for the runners
A trailing stop follows price upward and triggers if price falls a set percentage from its peak. It is the natural tool for the last slice of a ladder, because it lets you stay in a token that keeps running while locking in most of the gain when it turns. A trailing distance of 25% to 40% is common on meme coins. Tighter distances tend to get shaken out by normal volatility.
Accounting for fees and slippage
Every stage of a ladder is a separate sell, and each one pays fees and slippage. On very small positions, a five-step ladder can eat a meaningful share of the profit. Keep ladders to two or three steps on small trades. Our slippage settings guide explains how to set tolerance so exits actually fill in fast markets.
A repeatable pre-trade routine
Before every buy, write down three numbers: the position size you can lose entirely, the multiple at which you recover your stake, and the level at which you exit a losing trade. Enter the trade, then set those orders immediately. If you are not willing to set them, the trade is a gamble rather than a plan. You can set all of this up from the orders menu in PepeBoost on Telegram.
Reviewing your exits
Once a week, look back at closed trades. Were most losses cut at your planned level, or did you move stops? Did your ladders sell too early on the winners? Adjust the multiples based on your own history, not on screenshots from other traders. The PnL tracking guide shows how to pull that history from the bot.
Common questions
Do limit and stop orders work while I am offline? Yes. Orders set in the bot execute automatically when conditions are met.
What is a good first ladder? Recover your stake at 2x, take another quarter at 4x, and trail the rest. Refine it from your own results.
Can stop-losses protect me from a rug pull? Rarely. A rug can remove liquidity faster than any order can fill. Position sizing and token checks are the real protection. Try the order tools in PepeBoost on a small position first.
